Two jurors – one black man and one black woman – said they had a relationship with Freddie Gray as the jury selection process continued Tuesday in the trial of Officer William Porter.
The two are part of a new pool of 75 potential jurors being questioned by Circuit Judge Barry Williams.
The man also said he has strong feelings about race, the charges against Porter and that he or an immediate family member works in law enforcement.
Porter is charged with involuntary manslaughter, assault, misconduct in office and reckless endangerment.
Once again, the new jury pool reflects the latest census numbers for Baltimore: majority black and majority female. More than half of the pool has either said they or an immediate family member was either a crime victim, charged with or convicted of a crime, served a jail sentence or have charges or cases pending.
Gray died April 19, one week after his arrest, after suffering a severe spinal injury while in custody.
Judge Williams told potential jurors that the trial is not expected to last past Dec. 17. He began interviewing individual jurors after asking general questions to the pool.
