Baltimore City purchasing officials could endorse a new water billing company as early as today.
The Baltimore Sun reports that the city is looking for a company to install over 400,000 water meters and institute a wireless reporting system. Right now, some customers are receiving grossly inaccurate bills and last year, an audit found that thousands had been overcharged. The city Purchasing Department will make its recommendation to Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and the Board of Estimates, which she controls, will then vote on the contract. Work would be completed by April 2017.
The Baltimore Brew has also been covering the water-meter contract, including this story that reviews documents submitted by one bidder to the city, and this statement from the Mayor’s office on the bidding process.
