Dwyer Faces New Alcohol-Related Charge

Anne Arundel County Police

Anne Arundel County Delegate Don Dwyer is facing a new alcohol-related charge after being arrested and charged with drunk driving.

According to the police report, Dwyer was pulled over at around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday on Route 100 near Edwin Raynor Blvd in Pasadena by an officer who was transporting a prisoner.  The officer said he observed Dwyer’s 2001 Cadillac swerving between the lanes.

Dwyer told the officer that he was coming from Baltimore and had two beers.  After failing several field sobriety tests, Dwyer was taken into custody.  In addition to DUI, Dwyer is facing several other traffic violations including driving with suspended tags.  He refused to take a breath test.

The Republican legislator is awaiting sentencing for operating a vessel while under the influence of alcohol following a boating accident last August in which he and several other people were injured.  He had agreed to a plea deal under where he would see no jail time.  A judge rejected the plea deal in May and sentenced Dwyer to 30 days incarceration.  Dwyer remained free while he appealed the sentence.  A sentencing hearing is scheduled for October in that case.
