Civil Rights Leader Calls For Justice Department To Investigate Death Of Tyrone West

A local civil rights leader says his group will add to a federal complaint to include the second death of a man in Baltimore police custody in the last year.

The Rev. C.D. Witherspoon of the Baltimore City Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference filed a complaint with the Justice Department after Anthony Anderson died while in custody this past fall.

He says that complaint will now include Tyrone West.

Witherspoon says that the "United States Department of Justice has made it clear to us that they are investigating the Baltimore City Police Department as it relates to the incident with Anthony Anderson."

Witherspoon is also calling for the firing of the officers involved with the incident.

West was arrested last week in Northeast Baltimore during a traffic stop before being pronounced dead at a hospital.  A vigil was held Tuesday where family members pleaded for witnesses to come forward.
