State Health Insurance Exchange Expects No Shutdown Trouble

A shutdown of the federal government may occur on October 1 if Congressional leaders and the White House cannot agree on how to fund it.

October 1 is also the start of the open enrollment period for individuals looking to buy insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

But it looks like Obamacare will continue no matter what. The Washington Post has an explainer about why the funding to implement the law is secure. Bloomberg News reports that a former director of the Congressional Budget Office says that because computer systems are essential operations, the connections between the various state insurance exchanges and the IRS and Department of Homeland Security will probably continue.

Rebecca Pearce, executive director of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange, says that they are “continuing to move forward and do not anticipate any impact from a potential shutdown.”
