Today, O’Malley makes an announcement on plans for the Purple Line – a proposed light-rail line in Maryland’s DC suburbs that would connect Bethesda to New Carrollton. We look at the upcoming elections in Annapolis and Frederick, and hear about a citizen survey that’ll be used to craft Baltimore’s next budget. Plus: a swimmer goes missing in Patapsco River State Park, remembering Art Donovan, BronyCon 2013, and more.

O’Malley To Make “Purple Line” Announcement: Governor Martin O'Malley is expected to seek a private company to build the Purple Line, a proposed light-rail line that would connect Bethesda to New Carrollton. O'Malley will make the announcement at an event today in Bethesda; there’s more here from the Washington Post.

Annapolis Mayoral Race: The Annapolis Mayoral Race is getting more crowded – with the filing deadline less than a day away. The Capital Gazette reports that Bevin Ann Buchheister announced that she’s seeking the Democratic mayoral nomination on Friday. Buchheister is the President of Annapolis’s “Ward One Residents Association.” Her decision to run means that incumbent Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen will not be opposed in the Democratic primary. The GOP primary is already set to be contested, with two Republicans – Bob O’Shea and Mike Pantelides -- vying for their party’s nod. And either primary race could still get more crowded… candidates for Annapolis Mayor have until 9 o’clock tonight to file their candidacy.

Frederick’s Hot Political Year Gets Going: WYPR's Joel McCord and Jen Bondeson of the Frederick News-Post talk about the many races coming up in Frederick, including this fall's mayoral election. It’s this morning’s edition of Inside Maryland Politics

New Speed Camera Location In Frederick: Frederick is getting a new speed camera today; the device is set to go live near Thomas Johnson Middle School. The Frederick News Post reports that Frederick will now have nine speed camera PLATFORMS… even though the city only has six actual speed CAMERAS. The devices are rotated through the different posts… in part, so drivers can never be sure where the cameras are at a given time.

Cockysville Distillery Demolition: Business owners near an old vacant Cockeysville distillery say they’re happy to see this weekend's demolition work. The Baltimore Sun reportsthat FEMA provided money to demolish the 65-year-old building to prevent future flooding. The property will be returned to a natural state.

Missing Swimmer In Patapsco River State Park: The investigation into a missing swimmer in Patapsco River State Park is now in the hands of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police. The Baltimore Sun reportsthat Howard County crews were unable to find him yesterday. Officials say the Hispanic male disappeared after going through a chute of the hydroelectric dam.

Remembering Art Donovan: The Baltimore football community is mourning the loss of a former Colts legend. Defensive tackle Art Donovan has died at the age of 88. Donovan passed away after battling a respiratory ailment. There’s more here from the Baltimore Sun

Bronycon 2013: Thousands of fans of the animated cable TV show “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” galloped into Baltimore over the weekend for BronyCon 2013. We’ve got the voices of some Bronies here; there’s more on the gathering here from the Baltimore Sun.

Baltimore Baseball: the Orioles fell to the Seattle Mariners in yesterday’s game; the score was 3 to 2. The O’s are off today, as they travel west, for a game against the San Diego Padres tomorrow… the trip will also take the O's to San Francisco and Arizona before they return home to face the Rockies.
